Welcome to West Jefferson Elementary School’s website.
It has been an honor and a privilege to be your school’s principal. I am a product of the Jefferson County School System. I started first grade and graduated in 12th grade from a Jefferson County School. I began my career as a teacher in Jefferson County. I was a classroom teacher for 15 years, an assistant principal 3 years, and finally, principal here at West Jefferson. It has been an honor to serve in the Jefferson County School District my entire career!
I completed my B.A. (Bachelor’s) and M.A. (Master’s) degrees in Elementary Education at UAB, and my Ed.S (Educational Specialist) and Ed.D (Doctor of Education) degrees in Educational Leadership at Samford University. I am married to Randle Cassady (my rock) and we have 5 children, 4 children-in-law, and 5 grandchildren (my “reason”).
Throughout my life, I have struggled with the word “pride”. The Bible teaches us of the consequences of pride. However, I have to believe that the pride so deplored in the Bible is different from the kind of pride we feel about a job well done. I once was told that I should never tell my children that I am proud of them – I respectfully disagreed then, and I still disagree now. I believe that telling a child that you are proud of them confirms that they are valuable and what they have done is a productive work.
I have to say that I am PROUD of the students, faculty, staff, parents, grandparents, and community stakeholders of West Jefferson Elementary. This “family” does whatever it takes to ensure success. To be a National Blue Ribbon School reflects the hard work of this school and all stakeholders. YOU should be PROUD of a job well done.
Do not slack – stay the course!
Love to all,
Dr. Brenda Cassady
